Tips For Head Shaving

The bald, shaven head is a bold, classic look. Whether you’re new to it or not, you can achieve and maintain the look and feel that you want with tips and tools from Gillette.

Getting the shaven-head look

Follow these steps for a smooth scalp every time that you shave:

Man with freshly shaved head

Soften and trim your hairs. Shaving during or immediately after a shower helps to make those bristly hairs easier to cut. You might need to first give your hair a quick trim with a trimmer such as the  Gillette Trimmer. Before shaving, feel your scalp for bumps and moles.

Apply shaving gel

Apply a shaving gel. This will further help soften your hairs, improve razor-glide and help protect your skin against irritation. Gillette shave gels and foams help bring you a smooth shave from start to finish.

Avoid dull blades

Avoid dull blades. Before shaving, check the lubrastrips. If they look faded or the blades feel dull, it may be time to change your blades. Check out  Gillette replacement blades.

Shave with light, gentle strokes

Shave with light, gentle strokes. Shave with light, smooth strokes using even pressure. Work in a pattern that’s comfortable for you – try changing directions and going against the grain on your second pass.

Shave along contours

Shave along contours. The Flexball Technology of Gillette  Fusion5 ProGlide handles allows the blades to pivot over the contours of your scalp with ease. Fold your ears down as you work around them to help keep them from being nicked.

Rinse your blades

Rinse blades often. Run the blades gently under the tap every few strokes, both the back and front sides of the blades, and then gently shake excess water off. Do not tap your razor against the sink or wipe against a towel; these habits can reduce the life of the razor by affecting the intricate design of the blade components. Rinsing the blades under running water helps to remove built-up shaving gel, hair, and dead skin.

Reapply shaving gel as needed

Re-apply shaving gel. Before re-shaving any area, reapply shave gel to help prevent shaving rash and irritation.

Towel off

Towel off. Rinse your head with cool water, and towel off.

Squeeze shaving gel into hand

Moisturise. Moisturising immediately after shaving with an aftershave lotion helps to sooth just-shaved skin; moisturising as part of your daily shaving routine helps keep your scalp soft and hydrated.

Enjoy your smooth dome! With Gillette tips and tools, shaving your head will go smoothly.
